First day again

Interestingly enough the contact with the host family isn’t awkward at all. It is fun to get to know a couple of people abroad. What you automatically start to do is comparing things between the two countries of origin. Especially the differences in costs of living interest me a lot. I figured out that it is way more expensive in America to have a television contract than it would be in the Netherlands.
Our first trip together was to Lynden, a village a couple of miles away from our home. When I entered the village though I got the feeling of being thousands of miles away from where I actually was. The center of Lynden was build to resemble the Netherlands! You could even get split-pea soup and vegetable soup with meatballs at a Dutch restaurant. When you would leave the restaurant and would look to your left, there was a Dutch bakery and a Dutch windmill. In the gift shop were wooden shoes for sale. I was completely mesmerized as you would understand.
The funniest thing was actually when we went to the local theatre and it was decorated with an Amsterdam like moat in the middle, a typically Dutch pull up bridge which you would find in the Dutch countryside and two street name signs called: ‘Terpstraat’ and ‘van der laanstraat’.
